Last Night’s Tornado ~ Sunday’s Inspiration

Stormy weather in Fall.
G’day everyone,

We received no warnings or alerts, the rain and wind were fierce, the power was out still, and then everything grew much louder. From behind all that, Lisa and I heard the distinct growl of a tornado. It was coming straight at us.

It was outside our backyard in seconds. In shock, we didn’t speak or move. It was over — it was all over. I thought of our kids and Lisa, immediately becoming sad and weepy that we’d never all hold each other again.

And yet that damned tornado kept coming, rumbling louder and louder. Lisa and I had stopped breathing, dreading the coming pain.

Suddenly, the tornado veered north, and two seconds later, it rolled back into the clouds. Then, it was silent — freaking eerily silent. Even the crushing rain and wind tempest immediately died off. Lisa and I gasped for breath at the same time, while rattling off all the thoughts and emotions we experienced during that brief minute.

This was not a dream or a nightmare. Lisa and I startled awake when the heavy rains and wind began pummeling our house. We lost power right away (power lines are down in places), and we felt perfectly powerless to do anything more than lie still and await our fates.

The tornado didn’t seem to touch down after all, but it had been reaching. It was on track for a direct hit — the Doppler effect was that obvious and strong. The tornado roared over our house before disappearing, not dissipating —  instantly vanishing entirely.

It’s been a loving day around here. The sun is brighter than usual, and the breeze outside feels amazing. It feels great to be alive.

Have a nice, blessed day
